Recantata is an operatic work in progress by Kristin Erickson (a.k.a. Kevin Blechdom ). The project has been in development since late 2007, consisting of a score for an opera and a documentary film project with Christopher Fleeger . The first and only full performance was realized March 9, 2008 at Mills College, as a part of Kristin Erickson’s final semester of graduate school. Video of this performance is available on this website. The opera is based on a true story from Kristin’s hometown in Florida.

"Recantata addresses America’s widespread obsession with cults and satanic activity during the eighties as seen through the eyes of a small town. It in some ways echos the mass hysteria depicted in Capturing the Friedmans with emphasis on a child’s role (and fears) in such tenuous circumstances. Very poignant and also humorous in a way that sheds light on the absurdity of the situation. "
